Steel Catenary Risers

Touch done zone analysis

Detailed understanding of the physics and the interfaces (riser pipe – environment, riser pipe – seabed, riser pipe – product) permits DEEPSEA an integrated design approach to catenary riser design. DEEPSEA principally performs the majority of riser analysis using the Orcaflex commercial software with in-house pre- and post-processing tools to maximize efficiency.

Furthermore, DEEPSEA has developed specialized tools utilizing the Abaqus FE package to complement the Orcaflex capability. These tools are used for optimized design of ultra-deepwater systems that require better understanding of the conservatism in the design.

In essence these tools offer:

  • Accurate representation of the riser-seabed interaction using special seabed elements capable of any riser-seabed interaction curves
  • Modeling of the individual pipes and components for complex riser systems such as pipe-in-pipe SCRs, umbilicals and flexible pipes

The specific Services DEEPSEA offers include:

  • Configuration determination including buoyancy optimization for lazy wave SCRs
  • Global dynamic analysis for strength, interference and fatigue assessments
  • Hang-off design including flex joint specification and stress joint design & specification
  • VIV assessments

DEEPSEA has undertaken projects for concept selection and feasibility design all the way through to detailed design studies and verification exercises for SCRs in most deepwater regions of the world.
